Having early childhood experiences of abuse and trauma
can often result in the development of beliefs about one’s
self and the world that lead to a  basic distrust. This deeply
rooted distrust can cause problems in adult relationships,
creating unhealthy attachment styles, effect parenting, and
People who were abused as children may have developed
Post Traumatic Distress Disorder (PTSD) or Dissociative
Disorders that were not addressed during their childhood,
but rather continued to manifest into adulthood.  Therapy is
helpful to adult survivors of childhood trauma in that a safe,
therapeutic relationship serves to provide a safe place to
explore these past experiences, uncover distorted and/or
flawed beliefs that are getting in the way of living a
quality life.  Additionally, therapy focuses on developing
healthy coping strategies and helps in the management of
intense emotional reactions.
